Bonus genes could cause over expression of certain proteins leading to disease states. However, there was a study done that shows an extra copy of the PTEN gene (a tumor suppressor gene) could help prevent cancer. So you get good and you get bad.

Now, carry a bonus chromosome (chromosome #21), and subsequently 231 bonus genes, and you have Down's Syndrome. That's a LOT of bonus genes.
