I'm in Central Illinois and today we had the first day above average in a long time, and it was fantastic. Who knew 46 degrees could be so glorious?

Of course, I should add to that, yesterday we had both significant amounts of ice and snow and Thursday, there's the possibility of a tornado and thunderstorms. Yay for the weather!

My driveway..........city doesn't do private land. Not sure if that is different elsewhere.
For this area $25 is actually a decent price.

OK I see now, yeah we don't get over a foot here in a winter, so its no biggie to shovel, though this year we got hit twice in Eugene area, almost a foot each which was very unusual :-/

Now its been constantly raining with high temps every day and our rivers are at flood stage :-(

Started snowing 10 AM and is finally tapering of within the last hour. 8 to 10 inches of snow from this storm. The plowed snow at the top of my driveway is 12 to 15 feet.

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 am EST
Wednesday...

* hazard types... heavy snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 6 to 12 inches.

* Timing... snow will gradually taper to snow showers from
southwest to northeast and likely end before midnight.

* Impacts... slippery... snow-packed roads and sharply reduced
visibilities.

* Winds... north 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower 20s.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

That's brutal, I couldn't live there, and I been driving big rigs for 16 years and in those conditions several times, I wouldn't bare living in places like that, I tip my hat for you your family and everyone else that do it year in year out :-)

You'll note that he said the snow is piled 12-15 feet high at the end of his driveway. I'm pretty sure snow blowers don't throw snow that high.

What you REALLY need up there is a front end loader and a tri-axle dump truck to haul the fluff away.

It would take around an hour to use a snow blower to clear my driveway if I was ambitious, 1.5 hrs if I was (am) a lazy azz. Much easier to have my plow guy do it in 20 minutes long after Ive gone to bed or before I get up.

Oh and by the way, we got 4 more inches of snow today.......And the weather underground site says 60% chance of more tonight.

" Wednesday Night
Cloudy with a mixture of rain and snow this evening. Becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low near 30F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precip 60%."
