Actually, I think Rugby is a Furby's toy cousin. But they haven't been sold in years so I'm really confused now.

Man, when I was a kid, the local University had a rugby team. Every Saturday I walked up (the field was only a couple blocks away) and watched them play. They always had quartered oranges I guess for quick energy. They usta give me oranges.

For Americans, I think Rugby is an acquired taste. It's very difficult to compete with American football, and Soccer has sucked up potential Rugby fans. All I know is that Rugby players are hard core. They are hard men and they are borderline psychopaths. If you put pads on them, they would make Ray Lewis look like a Girly Man.

Sorta football without pads. Maybe a "cross" between soccer and football. And unlike soccer, it gets bloody and violent at times.

saying its football without pads is kinda misleading. there is a ton of contact yes, but not the same type and the severity is rarer in Rguby with the rucks (?) and what not.

one of my good friends was the only black guy on my UNI's inter-mural rugby team. they had some crazy fluffs on that team. one got slammed in the face with the skull of his own team mate. they had to take him to the hospital, put him under, peel his face off, fix his bone structure, and swe his face back together. he was trying to play again 2 weeks later.

fluffing nutjob.

they play a full 80 minutes none of this stop start rubbish...

Rucks and mauls = 5-10 100kg + guys stomping on ur head if ur unlucky... its a very skilled game and the rules are a little to hard to most American sports viewers to learn and understand ;)

inter-mural (intramural ?) != pro level

Rugby is some hard core fluff.

i never said it was pro level. and now that i think about it it wasnt intramural, it was "club"

not popular enough sport for the schools in my area to have a league, so thay had a "club" they traveled around the state playing other schools but not in a NCAA sanctioned means.

I always thought rugby was pretty straight forward - knock the fluff out of the guy in the different colored jersey, and hope he happened to be carrying the ball when you did it :-)

Well you do know Ray Lewis has killed someone right? Off the field :-P.

And if you take pads off the NFL players their would be people getting killed very frequantly.

If there was a rugby player with the athleticism as Ray Lewis they'd be in the NFL.

He's not just big and rock solid he's also extremely fast you under estimate the speed of a linebacker. He's in the area of a 4.5 second 40 yard dash. He's 6 foot and 250+lbs.

I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs...and i'm out of shape lol...So he's got 250lbs of muscle packed on a 6 foot frame.

I enjoy watching Rugby. Although, I crave pretty much any sport. From Ping Pong to Football to Curling. Only sport I can think of that I don't enjoy Golf and Nascar. And of course there is always the debate if Car Racing is really a sport.

NASCARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

how can you not like a BYOB sport that has drunks, boobs, loud cars, and good people?

like most other sports, its a spectator sport. you ATTEND an event, have a good time, pick a driver, and when you cant attend the other 30+ races you watch them on the TV to see how your boy is doing.

it really is that simple. chillin at the track with 250,000 of your closest friends is one of the best sporting events i have EVER been to and i have been to quite a few in my day

edit #2: i wrote a paper on NASCAR and its growth in the US over the last 50 years back in UNI. you would be suprised. The demographics of its fan bade mirror the demographics of the US both racially and geographically. ill see if i can find the paper when i get home but safe to say over 40% of the fans are female, 10% are black, and there are actually more tracks outside the "south" than there are in the south now including New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, texas, Las Vegas, a few in california, chicago, kansas, and many others that im not going to rack my brain for. and they all still fill the stands just as much as the "southern" tracks.

someone with a simplistic mind like that wouldnt be able to understand the complexity of the sport.

do you think football is just a bunch ot idiots slapping at eachother? or hockey a bunch of drunks chasing a puck? what about soccer a bunch of runners following a ball around?

simplifying sports is stupid. the engineering, the stamina, the concentration, the teamwork, the skill required. its unbelievable. but like i said. someone stupid enough to view it as "people going around in circles" probably would never actually understand the sport

No Ford I understand some of the strategy of the sport. But it in fact is people driving around and around. Drafting the way your engine is built ect...I'm not into it "Not knocking it just saying not my cup of tea".

I loved to play baseball but watching it on TV puts me to sleep.

I like to drive fast and race people I know but...watching it is boring to me. You just troll everything I say lol.

right, because the reigning 5 time champ is from california, there are drivers from australia, columbia, and the fan base mirrors the US population geographically and racially.

proof: http://www.gommi.com/...dia/race_demographics.htm

i think it might me the haters that are just stupid and ignorant and default back to stereotypes about a sport that they are either too stupid or drinking too much hateraide to understand.

fluff, most of the pit crew are football players that didnt make the NFL.

the sport has changed a little in the 60 years its been around. stop being ignorant and either give it a chance or get its name out of your mouth with gross inaccuracies.

edit: actually many of the drivers, if not most, are from regions other than the "south"

proof: http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/cup/drivers

stop being stupid please

I disagree with both Dragon and you. Ray Lewis would be a badass if he played rugby just like he's a badass playing football. The players learn how to hit and be hit based on their equipment or lack of equipment. Rugby guys are tough and hitting without pads, but if you taught football players from a young age, theyd learn to hit in a way where they wouldn't destroy themselves/others.
