The answer is complicated, honestly. I think a finger can be pointed at everyone. Sure, SOL held dominance for years, and they absolutely bullied other clans in their heyday, I know, because I was part of those conversations both as a member of SOL and later as a leader in another alliance. But why single them out? TIE, IX, SOF, Paradigm, RD… even CWG when it hit 60–80 members did the same thing. That was just how the game worked back then. It was politics, lies, betrayal, and war. That was the culture.
For me, the reason I left the game years ago was because people stopped keeping things at a game level. They took everything personally. CWG has always been known for its quirky sense of humor and for warring simply for the fun of it. We always knew when SOL, SOF, or IX were gearing up to declare on someone and people still acted shocked when it was them. But instead of treating it like part of the game, people took it to heart.
I’ve always had “amnesia” when it comes to sets. Every set was a clean slate. What happened last set stayed there—this one was new. It was never personal for me. But over time, I found myself in conversations about things that happened six sets ago, and the whole experience shifted from fun to just a pain in the ass. And honestly, nothing has really changed. Even since coming back, it’s the same thing, everything is taken personally. People can be fluffs here; that’s just the truth. All of us. And once people started getting their feelings hurt, they left. That’s when the game really began to decline.
I guess the last part of it can be chalked up to the game itself. For the longest time, Swirve never offered any real updates. Glitches and loopholes stuck around forever, and players took advantage of them because they simply weren’t getting fixed. By the time someone finally took over and started making real updates, it was already too late the fan base had moved on.
Again, this is all just my opinion. I’ve played this game on and off for over 20 years, and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. Makinso, Darkmere, BigDog, Jewler, Crysannia, Phoebe… the list goes on. Some are still here. Some—may they rest in peace—are not. I’ll always treasure the moments with DocGonzo, Fraz, Monkey Boi, and so many others.
Regardless, I’ll probably stick around until the login stops working and the tents burn down.
