Some people aren't able to connect to the server, and the news bots haven't been in #alliance for awhile now. Netsplits don't take this long, any ideas what's up?

no newsbots anywhere, server works fine.

irc2 is the hub server and is currently down (I can't ping it anyway... it's in some datacenter in california) -- it has the chanservs on it

irc and www (which has the news bots) are hub servers, and they're working, just not talking to each other (as they normally communicate through irc2)

So... right now we're just waiting to see if irc2 comes back? :) Zarcon is out camping apparently, so if it doesn't fix itself in the near future I can take a peek at the irc. config file to see if we can connect http://www. directly to irc. but... I suspect it'll come back sometime in the near future...

The current only bot on irc is General Earl's. Which makes me suspect that his is hosted on that server and not irc2.

what his bot does?

I believe it is used to grab irc stats?

all services are working correctly now. got the news bots working while i was camping. since i've come back from vacation tho, i've managed to rescue services.

apparently the network that services was on gets brute forced a lot and even tho the password was 20 chars long, there's a bug with their kernel that all you need is the first 8 chars to get in. pretty stupid anyway.

services are now linked to irc.earthempires.com now which hasn't gone down in 42 days now. a few brief network issues to some parts of the world, but otherwise it's pretty solid connection. and all servers are secured against brute force.

irc2.earthempires.com isn't back online as of yet, but it will be later.
