Actually the article is badly researched. The products they are claiming are banned are widely available in major grocery stores who I doubt would be violating the import laws. More likely someone is trying to import products illegally.

actually no, under customs laws for canada and us you can not import any yeast products like these. I think you can take in some for personal use (not 100%, i only ever investigate business cases not personal), like a small amount but you can not send there for the purpose of resale.

I believe, but i am also guessing here, this is because its quite possible for the yeast products to carry different types of bacteria that you do not already have there and then obviously are not immune to it, its unlikely but at the same time the govt see's fit that its enough of a threat to not risk it.


On a side note, its very hard to get an import license for any foodstuff in to canada. One of the hardest countries in the world in fact, ironically right along side the UK who are the ones complaining here.

As long as they leave Dolomite alone.

Given that you can get vegemite in some major groceries stores here, there is probably a way around it since there's no way they would risk importing stuff illegally.

yeah there definitely is, you probably just need to assure you get the right imports from the ministry of agriculture or what ever its called over there in canuck land.

I've been eating Marmite for a long time and you can definitely get it in Canada, but when friends go to England they bring back the 1lb jars for me that you can't get here.

I use to be the key account manager for the South Island for TNT Express. Part of my job was to find out customs requirements for the different goods our customers would send, I would liase with other TNT people around the world asking them about certain products and there customs requirements and what paperwork was required to ensure released.


Best advise for sending to India, include more goods that you list on the commercial invoice, the customs agents take the excess as a bribe and your goods get straight through customs, this is no fluff the exact advise i would give to my customers, worked every time.

yeah, i always tell people its at there own risk and that 'i never told you this' sort of thing, but the thing is the NZ customs people I dealt with knew what Indian customs were like so there was always a lot of discretion there.

Not to mention, and i probably shouldnt be saying this :P, as a business no more than 5% of your parcels would get opened, its really only the paperwork thats checked and then if there is an anomaly they check the parcel.

It was pretty unlikely the parcels they were sending to get india would be the ones selected for random auditing by customs.

i suppose this is entirely correct- similar to when i walk into anywhere while in a blazer and a tie and nobody checks my pockets, where i have copious amounts of drugs- i guess they reckon since i'm white and well dressed, i mean no harm.
