It's not really my code...

Anyway, the problem is that the database/query design are such that the queries execute slowly -- so when it does *lots* of them (say for a ranks update), then everything piles into each other and users can't get through easily.

So there's a bunch of queries that'd need to be rewritten to be faster probably....

It hasnt always done this. What's different now than say 1 year ago when we didn't get the database errors?

Couple things; one, the database is getting larger, and I believe the queries are getting slower; two, it didn't used to say Database Connect, but it *DID* collapse all over itself (AND EE!) and cause all sorts of inaccessibility -- just it looked a lot more like lag and partial loads; i think this is largely because I've isolated boxcar in it's own VM, so now EE & evo2025 don't have to compete for resources with it. three, it is a different setup on a different (faster!) machine, so it could be something to do with faster CPU but the same speed of I/O...

I dunno exactly, but I can tell you the mysql slowqueries log fills up for boxcar =/

@qz -> if you feel that's the issue, let's just back up the db's and clear out all old data.

anyway, the issue is almost certainly database overload due to a lack of RAM or CPU, probably related to temporary tables being made for some of the country data focused queries, if memory serves.

if there's ram available to give the VM, give it some more ram and see if that solves/cuts down on the issues :p

1 thing which prolly uses memory is that if alliance command doesn't have tag and no countries claimed in profiles there are still random alerts that #xxx is getting killed etc.

he needs ddr3, i could send more but canuckian post has been fluffing up lately (letters can take upto ~3 weeks to arrive and can rest week in post office until sent to recipient).

im sure they make a EDO ram -> DDR3 ram adapter

Anyway, I am all in favor of dumping irrelevant history... For example, 1A combat news from before this set... not really needed.

I agree dump useless fluff so it can actually run. It's so bad I wish my alliance used GHQ just so it would freaking work.

I got sent 2 letters from canuckland on same day, 1st arrived week later and 2nd "rested" somewhere nearly week until it got stamped and sent onwards and then it took bit over week to arrive. I sent letter to canuckland on feb 17th and recipient got it on last thursday.

also mail from canuckland to yankeeland had some troubles (I got my 1st letter before yankee got his and distance between sender and recipient isn't big (nearly neighbors)).

this may be fixed now -- qz and I took a quick look. i dropped a bunch of data from a news holding table & repaired a couple of tables that were throwing errors.

let me know if this persists with that "every 5 minute error" thing
