Ive heard that reality shows are cheaper to produce which is why there are so freaking many of them.

Reality TV isnt always reality either.

In January there were two huge explosions in the lot behind my property. When we went to investigate, it was a film crew filming for a reality show.

We found out, and later watched, the "meth lab explosion" on Amish Mafia. They brought in and blew up an empty tractor trailor and made it out to be the meth lab out in the middle of nowhere. lol

many are but doubt all are (like survivors) but ppls watch those and advertisers advertise and money winner(s) get is fraction of what producers and tv companies make.

I still watch Survivor every season, lol

And I watch Amish Mafia for the entertainment value, lol eventhough its a total crock of crap.

I like Sons of Anarchy, and cartoons. Both Adult like King of the Hill and AMerican Dad, and child like Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents.

I have a 4mo old so its ok.

Well yeah, reality tv is partly faked.. or at least "guided". I read some stuff about the biggest loser in that regard as well that was just downright disturbing.
I can't convince my wife that they are scripted or at least partly scripted (game shows used to be but that's illegal now apparently).
Reminds me of the Truman show:P

It's pretty simple why there's so many reality TV shows: people like them and don't particularly care about the quality. In other words, the demand is insensitive to production quality, which means the quality can be striped down to the bare minimum, resulting in low production costs, thus resulting in high profit margins.

The question here isn't why there are so many reality shows, because the economics of it is pretty obvious. The real question is why will people watch them no matter what, no matter how low the quality? I think Ruthie stated it above quite well: "entertainment value even though i know it's a load of crap". Pure entertainment, plain and simple :)

if you and i enter into an agreed upon set of circumstances, where the rules are clearly laid out, and the strategy has been proven time and again over fourteen years, then at a certain point in time the enjoyment is found through watching others play a splendid game, dare i say a game where they outlasted, outwitted and out played their opponents?

what you call back stab, and attribute an air of illegitimacy or wrongness to it, anybody who enjoys the actual game will understand that that is, in fact, the entirety of [the] fun (outside of rooting for somebody on redemption island, or come the merge where team immunity is gone and individual immunity IS HERE!)

TV is killing you all. It's a brain drain. Scientists have proven this by using EEG monitors on people watching TV. They've noticed that when someone watches TV their alpha waves are greatly enhanced, thus, you are technically sleeping.

While your brain is doing that, you cannot tell what they are programming you for.

survivor will always be a great show, outside of a rare dud season like nicaragua. the concept is pretty much eternal

theres some good sitcoms but yeah they're mostly bad. eastbound and down, always sunny, theres been some good stuff around

east bound and down:
reporter: how are you enjoying new york?
kenny powers: what, you mean jew york? not as bad as those fags over in california

House of cards ftw. better than any sitcom:P

I haven't watched survivors much since early seasons, few 1st episodes to see competitors and glimpses if nothing else worth to watch (happens bit often even I have ~20 free channels to watch)).
