started off strong, lost 4 in a row. starting our next winning streak tonight!

having the best pitching start the MLB has seen in decades doesnt hurt too much.

I'm a Pirates fan. I hate the Brewers. Obviously. That said, they have it goin' on right now. Best team in baseball right now and if they even have mediocre pitching till September, I think they play October baseball so long as they keep hitting.

Baseball is a funny game, though.

The Central's a weird division right now. The expected teams to be good (StL and Pitt) are both under .500 and the team that was probably the dark horse pick is the best team in baseball.

I would still happily pick St. Louis to win the division after 162 games are played at this point (of course, I'm biased as I'm a Cardinals fan), just because they have such great pitching and ultimately they've got a lot of big bats that just haven't started hitting yet.

However, I do think the Brewers' start could propel them into the playoffs, whether they can hold off the preseason paper contenders for first place or not.

I wanna say the Central as a whole has some of the best overall pitching in the league. Its just going to depend on who can stay healty and whose bats start going once the year balances out.

I hit the rocks below the dam and holes [anything over 6ft] above the dam

but the best walleye in the spring and fall by far is at the banks by the park, picnic and fish at the same time

oh I am speaking of south of you, at stevens point.

best walleye is in lake erie

as for the brewers having the best record

look at the indians last year, or the year before

The Pirates have the same relatively anemic bats they did last year, and none of the epic starting pitching they got last year.

They have some live arms in their farm system and a couple guys that can hit who I expect to see come up this year, but right now, they're honestly not a very good baseball team.

Pittsburgh, Home of Champions... and the Pirates.

Up until the last couple years, the Pirates were a completely non-competitive team. Ownership didn't car about winning despite building the arguably nicest ball yard in MLB, but that's changing.

They now have a solid organization and a farm system as good as Atlanta's ever was. Organization has been rebuilt literally from the ground up.

With good starting pitching and a more agressive approach to hitting, they at least can compete. Which is something a whole entire generation of Pittsburghers didn't ever see.

If my memory serves me correct, last pirates world series was 1979. Orioles are pretty much in the same boat (1983). I really wish the O's didn't have two teams in their division who spend over 200m a year.

last series win for the rats was 79, same for pennant.

last division title was 92

last series win for the brewers...

Yep. 1979. The Bucs had teams 1990-1992 that COULD have won 3 straight WS but they were locked up against Atlanta and couldn't get past them. In part that was because the Braves had such a great farm system. It also didn't hurt that they had Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smotlz.

My wife is from DC and was born at Bethesda NH, so she obviously has some feelings for the O's. I always tell her that Balitomore owns Pitssburgh unless it's a WS. The last 2 WS the Pirates won (1971,1979) were against the O's.

I'd love to see realignments that put, say, the Nats, O's, Phillies and Pirates in the same division. Similar markets and like you said, no one team has to attempt to outspend a big market club like the Yankees or Red Sox.
