Lester for Cespedes, Fuld for Milone.

Gray, Lester, Kazmir, Samardzija, Chavez, Hammel...

This is an awful trade for the A's, in my opinion - especially if they don't win this year.

Lester will be an FA after this season and probably won't sign with the A's. Renting him for this year in exchange for Cespedes, an absolute stud, is just kinda silly.

Cespedes is only locked up for one more year. The only way this trade makes sense for them is if they have an indication that they won't be able to re-sign him. If that's the case, it means that they need to move him either now, or next year. There are no guarantees that a guy like Lester will be available next year, or that the A's will be in the same position as they are now.

In baseball you either build long term, or you go for it now. Unless he wants to stay in Oakland, Cespedes doesn't fit into either of those.

I literally blurted out a string of expletives (prefaced by "what the...") while at work when I heard about the Lester/Yoenis trade.

The A's weren't going to sign Cespedes for a long-term contract and they did have the best rotation in the AL with the addition of Lester until the Tigers traded for Price. I think this pretty much sets the ALCS with the A's vs. Tigers. I also like this trade for the Sox as they now can convince Stanton to go there.
