I have a feeling that there are people who carry a lot of anger and frustration around with them and what this particular game does is to get them into situations where they can vent their anger in this sort of tirade.

Some play so badly that they may even subconsciously generate the situations in which they can feel righteous outrage at what happens.

I play on an online chess site where the behaviour is even worse and have had the opportunity to ask one or two of the people who post hate messages why they do it. The answer tends to be "It's the internet, what do you expect" (or rather four letter words to that effect).

I don't know about apps. If they are things you use on a mobile phone I don't have one.

But chess.com does have good stuff as well as providing lots of opponents for a game. Right now there is commentary on the first game in a match betwen Nakamura (with access to one of the chess engines) and Stockfish (another of the super strong computer programmes). And they give live coverage of the top tournaments plus problems and training aids to improve tactics etc. Also chat boards and groups which play matches against each other and - currently my favourite - vote chess games.

Don't have a car. Developed a dislike of cars and roads in the 60s and have never had reason to change my mind.

Its happens, I've had homophobic messages before in alliance.

Mostly though its all in good fun, ive even made friends with some countries I fought or that farmed me or vise versa etc
