this happens every few years. last time china was actually launching missiles OVER Taiwan i think, so the US sailed a carrier group through the straight as a show of solidarity and fluff calmed down.

saber rattling.

i would be more worried about the bases they are buildng in the spratleys and other island chains through land reclimation. even without official hostilities, accidents happen when foreigh navies operate so close to eachother. accidents start wars too.

been a while since the world had to deal with an expansionist minded nation that wasnt in on western ideals and plans. now we got 2 bigguns

Meh the Chinese won't start a war unless the ruskies Fire the first shot...and Putin isn't in a position at the moment to take on NATO on the western front.

China knows they can't beat the U.S. And the allies right now unless the fluff goes nuclear...and they aren't as suicidal as the Japanese were in WW2

Those bases though...there's an accident just waiting to happen there. You see the video of when the U.S. Plane flew pretty much over one of the "islands"? All it takes is for those bastards to shoot down an American plane...hello WW3 goodbye world

This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

If all hell breaks loose I'll just watch it from my porch sipping on a nice cold brew. Least I'll get blown up into ashes and not feel a damn thing

i am well aware of the flyover of a new P8 that had a CNN correspondent onboard that the CHinese sent multiple warnings too.

Im also aware of artillery the Chinese have places on a couple of these islands.

Im aware, too, of the LCS patrols in the area and permanent station of 3 of said ships in the area to demonstrate the US's commitment to its allies in the area.

You...are a pretty well informed guy it seems like. No sarcasm btw.
I can't but help but think that we are actively egging the Chinese on though...not saying what they are doing is right by any means. But flying over those bases seem pretty balsy on our end no?

showing resistance to expansionist ideas cant really be called egging on.

Provocative implies the first move, not responding to no? maybe we are just in semantics. anyways, isolationist ideals arnt very preventative, and usually only lead to reactionary measures at the last moment.

why would china take out its largest consumer market?

If someone was the largest buyer of the goods you manufacture would you really want to harm them?

--------------------------------

China buys US dollars to ensure the US consumer market continues to buy their goods.

--------------------------------

If there is one good thing coming out of the Iran deal then it's the potential to divert some of the money Iran spends on Chinese goods back to western nations. Strengthening our negotiating position with both China and Russia.

Strategically it also provides another entry point or at minimum neutralizes the expansion in that direction.

-----------------------
China probably just wants better terms in trade agreements.

You are all wrong. The US will fall without a battle. Obama is busy seeing to that right this minute. You are high on dangerous drugs if you actually believe the crap coming out of the media. He's sold our ass down the river and included the oars in the deal.

What's going to happen is Iran is going to finally get their nuke, and they're going to nuke Saudi Arabia first. Those pesky Saudi's have been annoying the Iranians for some time now, hence the hostilities in Yemen right now, the rebels being backed by Iran, and the "recognized" government being backed by the Saudi's.

Once that happens, that is when China suddenly becomes very concerned with having access to oil and will act to obtain it from whatever they feel they can likely do it without any overt military action against anyone large, like the US or Russia, and things will then escalate from there.

The US will be toothless by then since there will be a currency crisis and domestic unrest of unprecedented size followed by Martial Law so that Obama can continue to be President for the duration of the crisis, which, of course, will be never-ending from that point on. The US will cease to matter in world affairs except for it's nuclear deterrence forces, and they won't last that long as an effective deterrent since some idiot in Washington will defund it, or trade it away for some walk around money.
