So here's a weird thing that happened... Someone opened up outlook to find only 3 days worth of emails missing. Nothing in junk, trash, sent, archive, etc. The view hasnt been changed, no extra rules have been set, its just a default install. Also, nothin in the folder that mcafee would in. Is it possible the .pst file partially got corrupted but it recovered and lost data before opening up outlook? BTW it is a pop email.

ok, it's because it's a POP email.

The way POP emails work is that once they're downloaded, they're off the server (I think... I'm going on like 2004 POP3 knowledge :p). IMAP keeps a copy of the messages on the server until you delete it.

Do you have any other instances of Outlook set up? Maybe on an old computer that got turned on?
If you have the option, change over to IMAP and you shouldn't have any problems moving forward, regardless of the mail client you choose. :)

POP emails stay on the server until they are deleted off the server as well. However, all email clients default to deleting it off the server after retrieving it (because most email servers don't let you keep more than 10 or 20 mb of emails anyway), except email clients on mobile devices.

you can select POP email to be deleted once its been picked up off the server ... similarly, a client can be configured to not delete email f of f the server

Well apparently a group of people lost there emails with in the same time frame, from the 4th to the 9th. wtf? And office version doesnt matter...

check the view options ... grouped like-like is a <censored> with losing stuff

I think you were disconnected to the server.
Had that problem when our company's services for mails went down.
If you're not seeing "All folders are up to date." in the status bar at the bottom, then that must be it.
