To have your gall bladder removed in the states? And also to have a 4 night stay in the hospital over it?

From the day of his initial pain until it was out, how long did it take?

Um, I dunno. He is on VA and Medicare though, so it probably would be a different experience from yours though.

I do know they froze the gallbladder, shattered it, and sucked out the shards with a little vacuum hose. He was home in time for a late lunch.

Did he get an ultrasound, and MRI, and the surgery all in one day?

I dunno. I'll call him tomorrow and ask though. Give me a list of questions and I'll find out best I can.

Naw, my wife had her gall bladder removed, she went in at 10am Sunday and came home this afternoon. Ultrasound on Sunday, MRI on Monday, surgery on Tuesday, home Wednesday afternoon.

I'm just wondering what kind of bill I should expect.

oooo... ouch. "In the United States, the cost of laparoscopic gallbladder removal averages about $3,000 to $8,000 but lab costs and anesthesiology and hospital stay may leave patients with a bill of approximately $25,000 to $50,000 depending on geographical location."

Could.
There is stuff you can take to control it.
Too much greasy food or any number of other things can set it off though, and it's extremely painful.

oh, health insurance... 26% of americans had no health insurance as of 2011... that's crazy.

Can you imagine someone with my income having NO health insurance? They'd be screwed because of an outpatient procedure!

Its free, you go to the hospital, get it done, then for the next 17 years they send you a bill in the mail that you never have to pay

Welcome to America.

Anyhow normally as for a gall bladder surgery in the US it is normally an outpatient procedure.

oh hey, I'm Canadian. My universal healthcare covered it all except for parking.

I don't think it's right to punish people who cannot afford healthcare. If one of those 26% had a gall stone attack and needed their gallbladder removed, either they die from the pain or infection or complication... OR they take out a loan that they can't pay off to pay for the $25000-$50000 hospital bill? What year is this?

Dibs, isn't Romney proposing a way that all Americans can have healthcare? Oh wait, Romney's plan will cost tax payers MORE and by the year 2022 will not cover 72 million people.
