in the united states it is easily shown that there is a very high correlation between your parents wealth and your wealth. The further you are to either end of the scale, the higher the correlation is.
In Europe and Canada the correlation also increases once you hit either end of the spectrum but in the middle there is far less.
Of course there are exceptions.
The argument presented above was the same argument used for generations to support absolute monarchy and the right of the nobility. Once education became more widespread this idea ended badly.
