Why do people arrange land trading partners outside their clan rather than within it?

I am told because it is highly frowned upon by this servers players to do it w/in clan. As to why it is frowned upon? I have gotten couple different answers and not sure what is the actual real reason. It is tolerated in other servers for example, so why not here I dont rightly know.

I feel it could be taken advantage of more, if you had members in your alliance that didn't care if the trade was equal you could kind of just self farm your alliance.

'Why do people try to procreate with other people outside of their family rather than within it?'

Because it'd be retarded if you traded within your own alliances. Plus, this game isn't called West Virginia Empires...

If you had more experience on the alliance server, I'm sure you could answer that question yourself.

That's kind of the whole reason he made a thread on AT.

The first countries who did this did it internally. They pissed off *everyone* else on the server when they did it (including some in their own alliance); the political consequences were very high. Land was relatively easy to get elsewhere so it never got to the point that alliances really felt the need to trade instead of it just being a novelty. Then, of course, ghost acres were removed in response to trading and the whole controversy disappeared.

I'm guessing that when ghost acres were put back in, when the game moved to EE, everyone who wanted to trade remembered just how controversial land trading within tags had been, and decided to protect themselves and their tags by doing it cross-alliance. It doesn't make much difference in terms of the returns for the individual countries, but it makes a huge difference politically.

Ah ha, now see that is one of the things I had heard. That when it was initially done and was associated by cheating, in other words done with their own other countries. So doing inside your own clan still brings up those bad vibes and wondering if its cheating and you have other accts and countries. I dont want to say its silly, feelings and politics arent, yet logically it makes no sense or difference whether it is done inside of clan or between other clans. Logically it should either be tolerated fully or not at all.

What I hadnt heard before though is that was prior to EE.

TGA etc kind of poisoned the well as far as hitting within a tag goes.

Land trading was first done in Omega back in like '03 or '04. Rook thought it up, which was damn smart of him.

fluff response for a fluff response :)

But seriously, the reason is that internal farming/trading leads to the complete dissolution of even the last vestiges of competition. If you are a skilled player, you can always create trades in which you gain more than the other person, even if you both come out positive overall. Many players have gotten too friendly in the past 4-5 sets, with trading breaks, allies, etc, and bending over backwards to accommodate players, but many people(myself included) don't really like this. It's boring. But having a simple trading system with a few limitations in place, and with an opt-in style list system, is best of both worlds, imo. I still have to do the legwork of getting ops, I have to calc breaks and figure out how to optimize the grab/retal, and I still have to exercise basic target selection in order to maximize my own gains.

As many others have said, the best players still come out on top. Removing the last vestige of competition would just kill netting altogether, as you'd have Laffers simply trading with other laffers, and Evoers with Evoers, and whoever did the best maths would win, and there'd be no competition/risk/communication with other alliances.

So yeah, opponents of trading think it's skill-less and too tree huggy, but even proponents of trading are against internal farming..

back during old days ghost acres were enormous, make a 25k acres grab and get same amount of gas so getting retalled didn't matter much.
